John Campbell, officer in charge of the British troops at Fort George, Castine, wrote this letter to his commanding officer, Sir Henry Clinton, about the disposition of the troops and the capture of General Peleg Wadsworth. The letter is a transcribed copy from the original, which is at the Public Records Office and Royal Institution of Great Britain. Joseph Williamson of Belfast, Maine, had documents relating to the Penobscot Expedition transcribed between 1894 and 1902.
