Shaylor advertisement, ca. 1881

Description

Horace Shaylor of Portland used this advertisement to recruit agents to sell Shaylor's Compendium of Penmanship.

The ad puts emphasis on the importance of penmanship and how it helps those who practice it to acquire jobs.

Agents sold the compendium, canvassing assigned towns. Several letters of recommendation about the success of the Compendium are included in the ad.
