Douglas Rafter, sitting at the console of the Kotzschmar Memorial Organ in City Hall, Portland, was the seventh Portland municipal organist, named to the post in 1976.
He had been visiting Portland every summer since 1937 to perform on the organ. He resigned in 1981, just prior to the position being eliminated due to budget constraints.
