Home economics cottage, Farmington State Normal School, ca. 1940
In 1915, Farmington State Normal School purchased the Leavitt home to house its growing Home Economics department. Beginning in January 1916, it opened with new cooking and sewing labs in the former barn, and the main house provided space for live-in home management experience for students. The house became known as the Cottage, and was the center for Home Economics activities for many decades.
