Description

What appears to be a post card image of Frye Grammar School in Lewiston, which was built in 1865 in honor of Senator William Pierce Frye (1831-1911).

Frye was born in 1831 in Lewiston, graduated from Bowdoin College and practiced law in Lewiston and Rockland. He served as mayor of Lewiston 1865-1866, as a Republican member of the U.S. Congress and a member of the House of Representatives. He also served several terms as Attorney General of Maine.

Frye school still stands and in 2002 was being remodeled into housing for senior citizens.
