Helen Lockwood, Farmington State Normal School, ca. 1936

Contributed by Mantor Library at UMF

Description

The Home Economics program had all new faculty in 1924, including Helen Lockwood as its new director. It was expanded from a two year to a four year program and curriculum changes were made to comply with the federal standards created by the federal Smith-Hughes act.

Miss Lockwood, who remained at the school until her retirement in 1948, was instrumental in getting the four year degree program established and acted as adviser to the Home Economics Department Council established in 1929. The council was made up of class officers from each class and met every other week to discuss ways to make their school life more meaningful.
