Miriam Haley reports to her husband, William Haley, Jr. on the improving health of their son Billy, calling the doctor the “Old Pirate.”
She reports on illnesses of their neighbors and on the crops on the farm—the sorrel is cut, the haying not yet started and the corn must be hoed.
She shares all the gossip—Hattie Day going out with Mr. Gould; Greenlief Mariner getting married in Bridgton a week after he got home from the war.
