Description
Captain Henry Mowat of the British Navy was commanded to bombard ports, shipping and towns along the Massachusetts coast during the early days of the American Revolution. Captain Mowat drafted this letter addressing the people of Falmouth (now Portland) warning them of what his ships were about to do, and offering refuge for British Loyalists. The item is a copy of Mowat's original letter.
