Description

Andrew Smith standing by a woodpile in Swan's Island, ca. 1940. Note the horse hitched up to a sled with wood. Smith owned the store in Atlantic under his name located at 290 Atlantic Road in the house that is now Nancy Davis's.

Capt. Andrew C. Smith was born on 5 December 1856 on Swan's Island. He was a mackerel seiner and a store keeper. Smith married Inez A. Joyce in 1877. He remarried Cora Staples in 1923, one year after the death of his first wife. Smith died on 26 February 1941. He was buried in Rose Hill cemetery, Atlantic.
