Description
Maine sculptor Benjamin Paul Akers (1825-1861), who was born in Saccarappa (Westbrook), is best known for "The Dead Pearl Diver" and other idealized works he created while in Rome, Italy. This small, unfired bas relief of a sleeping child is said to be his last work before he died at 36 of tuberculosis.
