Description

This monument in Bangor commemorates the sinking of the Battleship Maine in Havana, Cuba in 1898 which touched off the Spanish-American War. The monument is located in Davenport Park at the corner of Main and Cedar streets.

The caption reads, "Shield from Battleship "Maine" sunk in Havana Harbor, 1898, Bangor, Maine."

The Tichnor Brothers printing company published this type of postcard circa 1930-1945.
