Description
Lt. Charles Garcelon of Co. I of the 16th Maine Infantry wrote to his uncle William Waldron, who had been captain of Garcelon's company until being wounded at Gettysburg in July 1863 and discharged for disability in September 1863.
Garcelon wrote about getting paid and expected the money to go into the bank, but instead Dr. Shackford took it, giving his note for it. Garcelon wrote that one of his aunts thought that was "not quite right."
Garcelon reported on how much he had, what he needed funds for, and his intention to send most of the money for some unnamed purpose.
