Writing from Alexandria, Virginia, 1st Lt. John P. Sheahan of the 31st Maine Infantry told his father about being arrested and court martialed for the escape of several prisoners. He wrote that the charge was a formality and he was easily acquitted. He also wrote that his parents probably had heard he was married, but that he was not. He said he was going to marry his fiance, Lizzie Shriver, on July 18.
