Description

George W. Verrill of Norway was 21 when he enlisted in Co. C of the Maine 17th Infantry Regiment as first sergeant on August 18, 1862.

He was promoted to 2nd lieutenant in March 1863, to 1st lieutenant in November 1863 and to captain of Co. E in March 1864.

Verrill, who became a lawyer in Portland, was wounded in the thigh at Gettysburg. He was mustered out on June 4, 1865.
