Hannah Tobey Shapleigh Farmer (1823-1891) of Eliot was married to Moses Gerrish Farmer.

Sarah Jane Farmer was their daughter.

Hannah was a prominent philanthropist, involving herself with the abolitionist and feminist movements.

Their home was a way station on the underground railway. Hannah founded "Rosemary," in Eliot, a retreat for unwed mothers and their children.
