Description

The new high school (1919) included rooms for an expanded "Mechanical Arts Course" which included automobile mechanics, printing, electricity, machine shop, woodworking and mechanical drawing.

The Miller and Mayo Architectural firm of Portland, Maine and the John Cunningham Co. helped to create the new Portland High School. "Principal William B. Jack stressed that the new Portland High School would truly be the citizen's school, '...an American school and like America its doors are open to anyone who knocks.'"- From Peter E. Gribben's "A History of Portland High School 1821-1981.
