Description
Eleven crew members and scientists gather at the wheel of the schooner Bowdoin for a group photo. In the foreground are water cans and radio equipment. In 1939, students from high schools, prep schools and colleges joined Donald and Miriam MacMillan and the Bowdoin's crew for a 3-month voyage to Labrador, Baffin Island and Greenland. They explored fjords, studied glaciers, and also did scientific work in ornithology, botany, and oceanography.
