The Hallowell Fire Department, located on the corner of Winthrop and Water Street, served the town from 1869 to 1900, when it was moved to the old city hall located on Second Street. The tower in the rear of the building was used to hang hoses for quick drying. In the background, a Augusta- Hallowell- Gardiner Trolley can be seen arriving in downtown Hallowell.
