Description

Mildred Burrage of Kennebunkport and her sister, Madeleine, taught art to soldiers at the Halloran Hospital in Staten Island, New York, during World War II.

Mildred Burrage (1890-1983) had studied art since she was a child and studied and worked as an artist in Europe and the U.S.

The hospital was built in 1942 to treat mentally disabled children, but became an Army hospital for the duration of World War II.
