William Adams from Camp Franklin, Virginia, 1861

Description

In November 1861, Pvt. William Adams of Co. K, 5th Maine Infantry, wrote to one of his sisters in Raymond, thanking her for items she had sent and suggesting if she had a spare cake or pie she could send it and it would arrive at the encampment by Thanksgiving.

Adams (1842-1922) enlisted in June 1861 at age 18. A musician, he served until July 1864.
