Joshua L. Chamberlain (1828-1914) at the age of 43.
Chamberlain, a professor at Bowdoin College, became a Civil War general who led the successful Union campaign at Little Round Top at Gettysburg.
He served as governor of Maine from 1867-1871 and president of Bowdoin College from 1871-1883.
