Description

Zilpah Wadsworth Longfellow, mother of poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, wore this crocheted lace collar.

Zilpah W. Longfellow (1778-1851) was the daughter of Peleg and Elizabeth Wadsworth. She grew up in the house her parents built on Congress Street in Portland and she and her husband, Stephen Longfellow, raised their children there.
