Description

This is an early map of the area commissioned by the Pejepscot Company circa 1720. Scale [1:316,800] 1 inch = 5 miles.

Surveyors commissioned to lay out the plots of land for the Pejepscot company often had to do their work in the middle of winter to avoid confrontations with Native Americans. During this period three Indian wars were fought; Lovewell's War, 1722-1726, King George's War, 1744-1748; and the French and Indian War, 1754-1759.
