Captain Grenville F. Sparrow coat, ca. 1864

Capt. Grenville F. Sparrow (1837-1907) wore this coat as part of his uniform in the Civil War.
He rose from sergeant to lieutenant to captain of Co. A, 17th Maine volunteers. The shoulder bars are those of a captain.
