Description

Granville F. Sparrow of Deering Center used the tin plate, knife and fork during the American Civil War, 1861-1865.

Sparrow enlisted in August 1862 as a Sergeant in Co. A, 17th Maine. He was promoted several times, finally to Captain in Co. B. He participated in 30 engagements in the war, including Fredericksburg, Gettysburg and Lee's surrender at Appomattox on April 9, 1865.
