Libby Prison cane, 1893

Description

The brass-tipped cane bears a glued-on label that reads, "Bot at 'Libby Prison' at the Columbian Exposition at Chicago in 1893 by Ivy Davis supposed to be made from wood from the original prison at Richmond, Virginia."

The came was part of the Civil War memorabilia of Granville F. Sparrow (1837-1907), who served in the 17th Maine Volunteers. He rose to the rank of Captain of Co. B.
