Waterfront, Lubec, ca. 1925

Contributed by Lubec Historical Society

Description

While views of Lubec from Campobello Island are common, this dramatically portrays Lubec’s working waterfront at the height of 1920s prosperity. Factory smoke and the plethora of structures over the water testify to Lubec’s prominence as a leading sardine packer and herring smoker. Projecting farthest to the right appears the Seaboard, earlier Sea Coast, Canning Company. Above its roof and behind is the giant American Can Company factory with its associated stack and water tank. The tallest building is the roof and spire of the Congregational Church.
