Description

Aerial photograph of Portland Harbor with the airport and Fore River in the foreground, and the peninsula further back.

The first airline service to Portland began with the Boston & Maine Airways move from Scarborough to Clifford Strange's land in Portland in 1934.

The City of Portland bought the airfield in 1938, and in 1940, the Works Progress Administration built Portland's first real terminal.
