Description

Theodore S. McLellan (1811-1905) was born in Gray on December 12, 1811. His parents moved to Brunswick when he was about 8 years old where he learned the printer's trade, and became the publisher of several newspapers: the Regulator 1837-8, the Brunswicker 1842, and the Yaggerhammer.

Between the publishing of the Regulator and the Brunswicker, Theodore clerked for his father, Joseph McLellan, who was the postmaster, until December 29, 1840, when he was himself appointed postmaster where he served until May 21, 1849. After leaving the post office, he was interested in several enterprises, including a bookstore and a brickyard. He was one of 16 charter members who established the Pejepscot Historical Society in Brunswick, on January 10, 1888.

In 1901, McLellan was the oldest citizen in Brunswick, at the age of 90.
