Rev. George Knox, Brunswick, ca. 1860

Description

The Rev. George Knox was the pastor at the Baptist Church Society of Topsham from 1841-1845. On February 21, 1847 he married Sarah M. Barron of Lewiston. Rev. Knox was living in Lewiston with his wife and two children in 1860. He became the pastor of the Maine Street Baptist Church and Society, Brunswick, during 1860-61.

He joined as a Chaplain for the 1st Regiment in the Civil War from May 3, 1861 to May 8, 1863. He reenlisted to the 10th Maine and then it was changed to the 29th Maine. On October 31, 1864, as Knox was mounting his horse for some duty with other officers, his horse became restless, reared and fell back on him causing injuries that killed him by the end of the day.
