Description
Blocks of ice called "cakes" were cut with an ice saw that had a two handed handle called a tiller. An ice saw resembles the pit saw used in colonial times to cut wooden planks. ce cakes were then floated to the ice table, hauled up onto the table, loaded onto a sled or truck and then transported to the Arthur Moore ice house between Middle and Summer Streets.
