This postcard shows the the Hallowell High School football team from 1906.

Organized football games started in Hallowell on November 2, 1898. The Hallowell Register recorded the event: "The recently organized Hallowell foot-ball team played the strong eleven from Oak Grove Seminary of Vassalboro on the Muster Field, Wednesday afternoon. The Hallowell boys were defeated 5 -0.... Oak Grove's touch-down was made in the dark when it was impossible to distinguish which man had the ball. This was the first game of foot-ball ever played in Hallowell by two regular teams and was witnessed by three to four hundred people....The local team has been coached by F. F. Eddy, pastor of the Second Street Universalist church, who also captains the team."
