Description
The Blizzard of 1952 blanketed the Augusta, Hallowell, Farmingdale and Gardiner area with 28 inches of snow. Heavy winds caused drifting and heavy snow caused a large greenhouse in Farmingdale to collapse. A bulldozer cleared Route 201 through downtown Hallowell and a snowblower from the Augusta airport removed a huge drift that blocked the Litchfield Road near the Vaughan farm. It was the first time in many years that classes at Hallowell public schools were canceled.
