Description

Fido's Market is in the center of lower Water Street, once known as Joppa. Fido's was was badly damaged in the Kennebec River Flood of 1936 and the water level in 1987 was almost as high. After the flood the interior of the market had to be gutted, not only because of soaked insulation but because of a skim of oil that coated the inside of the building. The market opened for a short time after the 1987 flood and then was remodeled into a riverside restaurant.
