An illustration entitled "Hand-to-Hand Engagement on the Deck of the 'Margaretta,' June 12, 1775, is taken from the book Life of Captain Jeremiah O'Brien Machias, Maine by Andrew M. Sherman (1902).
The illustration depicts the fighting by American patriots from Machias with British sailors aboard the Margaretta in Machias in 1775. The Americans killed the captain and captured the ship in what often is called the first naval battle of the American Revolution.
