Morse Shipyard, Water Street, Thomaston, Maine c 1940

Contributed by Thomaston Historical Society

Description

Charles A. Morse established his boat business in Thomaston around 1912 on the site of the William J. Singer Shipyard (currently Epifanes) on Water Street in Thomaston. After his death, his son, Elmus, managed the business, which later passed on to his nephew, Wilbur. When Roger returned from the war, he worked at the yard with his uncle, later buying it to run as his own business. The yard turned out many New Bedford draggers during Roger’s reign. Now known as Lyman Morse Boatbuilding Company, the company continues the tradition of building world-class vessels, carrying on Thomaston’s 200-year history of shipbuilding.

Houses along Water Street are seen in the background.
