Description

Established in 2003, the Museum in the Streets program features 25 plaques with photographs and legends, placed in strategic locations throughout the town, to offer a self-guided tour of a well-preserved historic nineteenth-century village.

Thomaston's Museum in the Streets was the first of its type in the U. S., and was designed to bring attention to the extraordinary history of this early shipbuilding port.

Known as the "Town that went to Sea," Thomaston's history is rich with seafaring lore. The Museum offers a unique opportunity for visitors to stop and explore the historical back streets and see the beautiful homes built in the mid-19th century.
