George W. Pierce, a Portland lawyer who was active in Democratic politics, wrote a private note to his brother Josiah, Maine Senate President, providing information about a move by Jonathan Cilley, Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives, to defeat George Pierce's desired appointment as Court Reporter.
