Description
Writing from Cincinnati on his way back to Maine after a Western journey, George Washington Pierce (1805-1835) wrote to his brother his thoughts about the West and the people who lived there.
Pierce visited Wheeling, Cincinnati, Louisville, and St. Louis.
Pierce and his brother both were lawyers. Pierce wrote that the profession of lawyer is ranked below clergyman, mechanic, merchant, and farmer in the Western states.
He planned to return to Maine via Buffalo and Pittsburgh.
