A Potato Harvesting Scene, Presque Isle, 1945

Description

This painting by Richard Ellery belongs to the City of Presque Isle. It can be seen on the third floor of City Hall. It was commissioned in 1945 by the Northern National Bank and remained in the main lobby for years.

There is a two-row potato digger on the left, picking potatoes and dumping in barrels in the center, and loading full barrels onto a truck on the right

Most of the workers from this scene are from Frenchville, Maine. The farmer, Frank Conant can be seen walking the rows and carrying a newspaper.
