Description

Early sailing sardine carriers had no motors and were towed to docks at Lubec canneries. This image shows the Julius Wolff tugboat towing a sardine carrier to the pier. Note the buildings on Treat's Island in the background. These vessels transported herring from the weirs to factories in Lubec and Eastport.
