Description

Seen here on August 22, 1888, is a late summer picnic at the Pines, the Unitarian campground at Ferry Beach, Saco. In an interesting fisherman's costume, J. Vaughn Dennett, a philanthropist and future president of the York Institute who was known for his eccentric outfits, poses in the back row on the far left. In a notation written on the back of the photograph, Dennett describes himself as "a lazy chap."
