Description
Also known as an ice creeper, this item was strapped over and buckled to a shoe to prevent slipping on the ice. Ice production was a cottage industry on Islesboro before the days of refrigeration. Ice was harvested from several ponds on the island. The ice was used locally and shipped to southern ports as well.
