CCC crew lunch break, Augusta, 1935

Description

A Civilian Conservation Corps crew from Camp Jefferson on lunch break at the State Park in Augusta where they were working on clearing a ravine, planting trees, and building trails and benches.

The Jefferson CCC camp was made up of World War I veterans through September 1935, when it began enrolling younger men.

It was under the supervision of the Maine Forest Service and its main task was tree disease and insect control.
