CCC camp, Jefferson, ca. 1933

Contributed by Maine Forest Service

Description

Jefferson Camp, a Civilian Conservation Corps facility in Jefferson, housed men who worked for the Maine Forest Service doing insect and disease control.

Here, CCC men are shoveling snow at the camp. The men at the camp from 1933-1935 were veterans. A Forest Service report noted that they were unable to climb trees to do gypsy moth control work.

After 1935, the camp switched to "junior enrollees."
