Description

A campaign button for the 1964 presidential campaign. Pink background with blue printing. Features a 1960 campaign portrait of Maine Senator Margaret Chase Smith. It states "My sentiments are with Margaret Chase Smith." There is an image of an elephant on each side of the picture of Senator Smith.
On side of button it states: "Buttons by Emress Specialty Co. 64 W 23 ST NY 10 NY."

Margaret Chase smith sought the presidency in 1964 and took her campaign all the way to the Republican National Convention in San Francisco. She came in second to Barry Goldwater and became the first woman to have her name placed in nomination by a major political party.
