Description

The Chamber of Commerce building at 142 Free Street in Portland about 1926.

The Chamber purchased the 85-year-old Free Street Baptist Church building in 1926 and hired John Calvin Stevens and his son, John Howard Stevens, to restore the building to its original appearance. It was originally built in 1830 as a theater.

The building later became home to the Children's Museum of Maine.
