Description
The Parisian, built in 1880, was a passenger vessel with the Allan Line/Montreal Ocean Steamship Co.
Most trips were from Liverpool, England, to Halifax, Nova Scotia, or Quebec or Montreal. Sometimes Parisian would stop at Portland on the way to Halifax, and a few times Portland was the western terminus of the voyage. This picture was taken before 1899, when the vessel was re-engined and one of the two funnels shown here was removed. The ship is shown at the Galt Wharf grain elevator operated by the Grand Trunk Railroad.
It was the first vessel to have the Marconi wireless telegraph in 1902 and was called to respond to the sinking of the Titanic in 1912.
