Description

Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse, a caisson style light, was built in 1897 to mark a dangerous ledge at the entrance to Portland Harbor.

The Army Corps of Engineers in 1950-51 built a breakwater around the lighthouse, which originally was surrounded by water.
