Description

Bear Island Light is located on Bear Island, near Northeast Harbor, ME. The station was established in 1839. The current tower (31 feet tall, 100 foot high focal plane) was built in 1889. The original optic was a 5th-order Fresnel, but now is plastic. The lighthouse flashes white every 5 seconds. It was automated and made a private active aid to navigation in 1989.

The lighthouse (1889), keeper's house (1889), barn (1889), and oil house (1905) are still standing.
